What is the deal with this Harry Potter craze?

Are people so rocked by the events of Sept 11 that they will turn to anything to ease their minds, including wizards, sorcery and magic?

And they are encouraging their children to do the same? What's wrong with this picture?

Deut 18:10-13, "Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. You must be blameless before the LORD your God."

Are you sacrificing your son or daughter in the fire of Harry Potter?

It is said (probably by Cicero), "the eyes are the window of the soul."

Have you looked into the eyes of the Palestinian who was on videotape before he went later and completed a suicide bombing mission? Nothing but emptiness, fear, death. Have you looked in the eyes of most of the Taliban leaders (on the wanted poster)? Emptiness, fear, death.

Do I want to follow a religion that seems to teach emptiness and death? Would you?

Now look into the eyes of Billy Graham, or Pope John Paul II. One can see depth, love, life, eternal security!

Don't you want that, too? Eternal assurance can be had. Don't wonder where you're going when you die. Don't think for a minute that you will die and have eternal life in paradise, permission to see the face of Allah, the services of 72 virgins and the privilege to grant life in heaven to 70 relatives, as martyrs in Islam are taught.

The only way to know you're going to Heaven when you die, to have that blessed assurance, is to accept the free gift of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ by asking Him into your heart. That's all it takes. Don't walk around with your soul empty, lifeless, fearful, full of death. Choose life!

So, they've cloned a human embryo?

They call it "theraputic cloning," as opposed to "reproductive cloning."

On one hand, it's very exciting to think there may be help for those that suffer debilitating diseases (diabetes, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, etc.)

On the other hand, we're playing God. Creating life. I would much rather leave the creating of life in the Hands of Eternal God, instead of mortal, finite, falliable man. Man will find uses for creating life that are evil and wrong. Only God can create life for good. "And God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them...And God saw all that He had made, and behold it was very good." (Genesis 1:27 and 31, NASB).

Good stuff: "We ought to give thanks for all fortune: if it is 'good,' because it is good, if 'bad' because it works in us patience, humility and the contempt of this world and the hope of our eternal country." --C.S. Lewis

Work in me, Lord. Help me cling to the verse, "All things work together for good for those that love Him and are called according to His purposes." (Romans 8:28)

So, would you not want to believe that you are a special creation of an Almighty Being, carefully crafted by love, rather than just a descendant of a conglomeration of atoms that happened to randomly coagulate and eventually (by a process that's statistically impossible) turn into a person?

I choose the former.

Thanksgiving is coming up. What are you thankful for?

I'm thankful for Jesus, purring cats, snow, deep conversations, Dr. Pepper (why don't we have the caffeine-free variety in East TN yet??), flannel sheets, chocolate cake, ministers of the Gospel (from pastors to missionaries to everyday laypeople living for Jesus and not man), belly laughs echoing off the ceiling, babies with parents who cherish them, and a Godly husband.

What did I miss?

If we kill him, he will be a martyr, and he'll get what he wants, and be a rallying point for Al-Qaeda worldwide.

If we leave him alive and bring him to the UN for a trial, he will still be a rallying point for Al-Qaeda worldwide.

I don't want to even think about bringing him to the US for trial. He'd be even more a terrorist-magnet.

The best I've heard so far is to castrate him and send him back to Afghanistan in a burqa. Now, that's justice.

Ya know, you reach out in love and compassion, and their eyes are so blind and their hearts are so hurt that they cannot even see it for what it is.

I know something so special, so eternally important, that I want to share it with every one, and when I do share it with some, they come back with anger, hurt, cries of intolerance and narrow-mindness on my part. Their hearts are soooo very hurt, bless their hearts. It's all I can do to not respond angrily to them because it hurts me so much to hear their lies.

If they would only look at Christ Jesus, and not man's intrepretation of Christ Jesus. If only. Let it be, Lord.

Gotta realize that my answers are not perfect, but that I must answer.

It's just like when I was thinking of asking Jesus into my heart on April 1, 1987. I thought I had to have all my ducks in a row and be perfect before He would take me. Not so, as I soon delightedly found out. And in the same manner, as I prepare my responses to non-Christians in the newsgroups, I must remember that my answer does not have to be perfectly defendable or perfectly right, it just has to happen.

My heart aches for those who die without Christ (even including the Taliban), for it is an eternal separation from a Holy God. It's beyond sad. But, justice should also prevail, and it will. Those who have killed will be punished. Some for eternity.

What is everyone so afraid of? Why are the civil libertarians whining about invasion of privacy in this time of terrorism? What do they have to hide????

Who cares if someone knows how much I make or listen to my phone calls or know what sins I've committed in the past or whether I like chocolate cake with chocolate ice cream?

What's the BIG DEAL? What are they trying to cover up? What are they afraid of that someone will find out?

All will stand before a Holy God someday and account for everything they've ever done or not done (including myself). That will be much, much worse for some people than the government "snooping into private lives."

My last postings were a year ago when we were still wondering Who Would Be President?

Thank God that "W" is president now, and not Al Gore. Can you imagine how things would be different if Gore were president during this crisis? Who would have been his advisors and military leaders? We probably would have rolled over to Al-Qaeda and played dead in the name of political correctness, non-hate and tolerance.

So, why would I call myself "Narrow-Minded Simpleton," a moniker that is usually launched with derision towards far-right Christian "lunatics" who quote the Bible all the time and think there's only one (simple) Way to Heaven?

If the shoe fits...
