Well, it has been almost 15.5 years since I left NASA and the Kennedy Space Center.
And yet, looking into my heart, you'd think I still worked there.
All the feelings I had after Challenger and before the Return to Flight launch of Discovery (back then - which was September, 1988) - I'm having again!
The anticipation, the gut-wrenching memories of a downed Orbiter, the hopes, the fears, the I-will-be-holding-my-breath-until-the-SRBs-let-go, the memories of wincing at "Go at Throttle Up," etc., etc., are all still coursing through my veins.
My thoughts and prayers are with the NASA brethern as they face Return to Flight first-hand. Godspeed, Discovery, and STS-114.

So, why would I call myself "Narrow-Minded Simpleton," a moniker
that is usually launched with derision towards far-right Christian
"lunatics" who quote the Bible all the time and think there's only
one (simple) Way to Heaven?
